This past March marked the one-year anniversary of the COVID-19 lockdown. I for one didn’t believe we’d still be living through this pandemic a year later. Like all of you, I have had to maneuver around the impacts and the unprecedented resulting effects it has had on my business and personal life.
The British Columbia Quarter Horse Association (BCQHA), its affiliates, members and the equine industry rose to the challenge and learned a great deal about our ability to adapt. What has been very evident is the importance of our local activities, events and shows and the need for us to support them. It has also been extremely difficult for our sponsors and I know they certainly appreciated the support from our members.
BC Health officials are slowly revealing their plans for the relaxing of COVID restrictions and opening up the province. I implore all our members and friends to please follow the guidelines so we can all enjoy a more relaxed summer with our family and friends, especially our 4 legged ones! The BCQHA Board and zones are busy rescheduling and organizing events that can take place as restrictions are lifted. Check out the website regularly for updates and plan on attending in your area. Please also consider volunteering as these events will not happen without your help and support, better yet, consider joining your local Board, they are always welcoming new members.
The Canadian Quarter horse Association has been successful in obtaining a Grant from the American Quarter horse Association (AQHA) for the purpose of promoting AQHA and they are distributing these funds among the different provinces. I invite all our members and friends of the equine community to renew and/or become members of AQHA and BCQHA which will ultimately help Quarter Horse Associations in BC. BCQHA has a long and proud history and relies on its membership to sustain this organization and support the Quarter Horse Industry in BC. We are continuously striving to improve our service to the Quarter Horse and equine and appreciate ongoing communication and ideas from our members. Do not hesitate to contact any Board member from your zone or BCQHA if you have any questions or need information.
This has been a challenging time and the pandemic has shown us what is possible when we all come together. BCQHA hopes all our members and those around you remain safe and keep healthy as we ride out this third wave together!
Wishing all a wonderful summer,
Pia Petersen, President
