British Columbia Quarter Horse Association is pleased to invite you to join us for two great information seminars on March 16th from 10:30 to 2:30 at the Fort Langley Lions Seniors Hall, 23022 – 88th Avenue, Fort Langley. Lunch will be available – free for BCQHA members and $5 for non-members.
At 10:30 Dr. Wayne Burwash, DVM will speak on Therapeutic Drugs in the Equine Industry and their use in shows. Dr. Burwash will cover such topics as:
• Horse welfare and therapeutic use
• When should you use NSAID’s or therapeutic medication.
• The withdrawal periods for common NSAIDS and how it can lead to double stacking
• How to ensure your horse is within allowable limits
• Previcox and show dosage
Dr. Burwash graduated from Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1969 and has owned and operated an equine veterinary practise outside of Calgary for 37 years. He has been involved in medication control (drug testing) for over 30 years for Equestrian Canada, FEI and AQHA. Dr. Burwash is currently President of the Canadian Quarter Horse Association as well as serving as a director of the American Quarter Horse Association and the Quarter Horse Association of Alberta.
At 1:30 Dr. Mark Malowney B.SC, DC, CSCS will speak Concussions and the Equine Industry.
He will discuss the importance of making the appropriate diagnosis after a concussion injury and knowing when the athlete has fully recovered to avoide potentiall devastating, permanent or even fatal brain injury. This will include baseline testing to evaluate the athlete’s:
• Visual Movements
• Reaction Time
• Balance and Proprioception
• Motor Strength
• Neurocognitive Abilities
Dr. Malowney is a chiropractor, clinic director and practices at Rebound Sport and Spine in Langley BC. He has over 400 hours in training through Complet Concussion Management and has 4 years of experience practicing in the clinic and on the field. Dr. Malowney runs an evidence based program through Complete Concussion Management, a notional program with approximately 300 clinics in Canada.
The BCQHA Annual General Meeting will follow the seminars at approximately 2:30 with Year Awards to be presented after the meeting.
