Gen Matheson was an AQHA Director for BC from 1984 until her emeritus status in 1994. During this period she was instrumental in organizing the AQHA Youth World Cup competition, restructuring the BCQHA, lobbying against the border crossing bonds, assisting in the CEF coaching programs, lobbying to keep AQHA registrations on all AQHA horses in Canada while performing her duties as Director of HCBC, BCQHA and AQHA.

Gen’s former positions with the YWCA as president, developing their Mission Statement and also developing YWCA leadership courses gave her excellent training to assist the horse industry and to assist in the direction of BCQHA.

Gen single handedly started many projects that most people did not understand. She had insight towards the BIG picture and future. She strived for knowledge and futuristic goals for the Horse Industry.

Gen was wife, mother, grandmother, mentor, friend, educator, organizer and a very active woman. She loved doing all this for other people, primarily, BCQHA.

Gen was respected Nationally and Internationally for her involvement, dedication and accomplishments in the Horse Industry. She traveled far and wide of her own accord to promote the horses in British Columbia. She asked for nothing in return. She represented us all to the highest esteem being honest and candid to benefit us all.

One of our favourite quotes from Gen's obituary:

"She was the embodiment of one of her favorite mottos -  never a dull moment."

You are loved & missed Gen.  Thank you for all you did!
